Hello!

  1. Sass: Samsung claps back at Apple for their newest iPad ad, in which a hydraulic press crushes every instrument of creativity you could think of.

  2. Shameless plug: I was featured in the latest episode of Patreon’s YouTube show Digital Spaghetti, where I got to chat with YouTube editor Hayden Hillier-Smith and former Buzzfeed producer, actress and musician Maya Murillo. Check it out here!

  3. Soccer: Xabi Alonso, coach of German football club Bayer Leverkusen, delivers some perfect passes in this clip. Paige Nielsen, an NWSL player who was recently traded from Angel City to the Houston Dash, scored the game-winner against her old team in overtime. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

  4. Music: Billie Eilish’s newest album, Hit Me Hard And Soft, came out Friday, along with a new music video out for her song “Lunch”. Jay Som’s song “If I Could” (for the new A24 movie I Saw The T.V. Glow) is early-2000’s indie rock fun. Beabadobee’s “Take A Bite” reminds me of Michelle Branch. “i like the way you kiss me” by Artemas, which went viral on TikTok, has been in my head for the last week. BENEE’s cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” is equally catchy. Dayglow’s “Every Little Thing I Say I Do” is his classic feel-good indie rock (with a kooky music video), and led me to his great cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”.

  5. Rankings: Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums - they’re releasing the list in batches and are currently in the 30’s. It’s been fun to follow along every week as they work their way to number one!

  6. Eurovision: Most Americans don’t know much about the singing competition responsible for launching the careers of ABBA and Celine Dion (unless they’ve seen the Will Farrell movie parodying it). There were a ton of talented musicians to come out of this year’s competition, including the first nonbinary winner, Nemo Mettler, whose winning song also broke binaries by blending opera, rap and pop.

  7. Bop: These Irish primary school kids created the song of the summer.

  8. Creativity: “The ZONE cannot be pursued, cannot be earned, achieved or possessed. Available exclusively to those open, defenseless, free enough to receive ‘it’”.

  9. YouTube: “Hot Ones”, “Chicken Shop Date” and “Good Mythical Morning” successfully petitioned for Emmy eligibility.

If you enjoyed these gems, tell a friend! :)
