Gems of the Internet 007
Hey! Here are your gems of the week:
The best YouTube video I’ve seen all month, by artist and filmmaker Gawx.
Music: Sean Paul on Tiny Desk, how Vampire Weekend wrote Beyonce’s “Hold Up” - which led me to Declan McKenna’s fun rock version. Live sessions of Omar Apollo’s “Spite”, and Andy Shauf’s “Paradise Cinema” - which reminds me of “All Falls Down” by Lizzie McAlpine. “Drain Me!” by Towa Bird (who’s also a fantastic guitarist), “The Feminine Urge” by The Last Dinner Party, and Lorde’s cover of Talking Heads’ “Take Me to the River”.
A Stranger Things play is opening in London??
An hourlong conversation with one of my favorite up-and-coming creators, Jordan Studdard. Jordan makes intricate, whimsical, story-driven videos on YouTube and TikTok. I strongly recommend watching this one if you’ve never heard of his work!
A fun studio tour with graphic designer Aaron Draplin.
When I was a kid I used to spend hours drawing comics. But I never knew that there was a specific job just for inking them! This video is a great explainer on what an “inker” does in the comic industry - “it’s a “translation job, essentially”.
Nike collaborates with Navajo skateboarder Di'Orr Greenwood to create two moccasin skate shoes.
A video about life-changing drawing advice - “draw the exact same thing every single day, for a year”.
Hope you enjoyed reading!

See you next week,
