Gems of the Internet 009

Hey hi hello!
The drawing above is a result of me using the advice I shared a couple issues ago - to draw the same thing every day. So, I’ve been drawing pigeons!
I loved this YouTube video from Public Opinion about who makes and installs NYC’s street signs.
Music: Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” is in everyone’s heads! This week I’ve been listening to Gilligan Moss’ “Special Thing”, L’Imperatrice’s “Any Way (feat. Maggie Rogers)”, Remi Wolf’s “Motorcycle”, Jelani Aryeh’s “Breaking By”, James Blake’s “Retrograde”, RAYE’s “Worth It.”, JAWNY’s “strawberry chainsaw”, and Gabriels’ “Love and Hate in a Different Time (alt. version)”.
One of my favorite instagram accounts is Steven de Groot, a product designer who shares his drawing process. It’s mesmerizing!
Another awesome instagram account is the sculptor Hakon Anton Fageras, who chisels pillow sculptures out of solid marble.
Jordan Studdard teaches us how to make tiny paper helicopters.
My favorite rising YouTube creator right now is Evan Monsma. His videos are meditations on creativity with a blend of handmade projects and unique color grading/cinematography. Check out his newest video here. I love his reminder, “…whatever you’ve got, is good enough to make something”.
Some tips from creatives on how to avoid burnout, by Karl Shakur.
Rajiv Surendra, the Mr. Rogers of YouTube/real-life Wes Anderson character, walks us through his storage locker. (Yes, he did play Kevin G in Mean Girls).
While researching father’s day gifts on The Strategist, I found this nasal emollient (fancy way of saying essential oil). I’m surprised by how effective it is!
A couple weeks ago I bought two books at a yard sale: Abbi Jacobson’s I Might Regret This and Peanuts: 1952-1955. A random pair but both equally engaging!
That’s it for today! If you liked this issue, tell a friend.
See you next week!
Mia
