Gems of the Internet 013

30 days of pigeon drawings!

  1. I recently discovered Caleb Shaw’s nostalgic, richly colorful filmmaking. He recently made a mini-film using the pocket dispo - a disposable camera lens that you attach to digital cameras to create old-school photos and videos. I bought one myself and am excited to learn how to use it!

  2. Feist and Norah Jones on Tiny Desk. Which led me to NPR’s fun BTS video, How we record audio at the Tiny Desk.

  3. Digital Spaghetti launches a new series, Shot by Shot, with YouTube New Wave filmmaker Natalie Lynn.

  4. DIY creator Evan Monsma uploads his first video from his new studio.

  5. Music: Blondie’s “Call Me” by The Last Dinner Party, “Lithonia” by Childish Gambino (surprisingly pop punk??), “MICHELLE” by Oontz, “Problem Solver” by Slim Dan, Steely Dan’s “Dirty Work” by King Princess, “Satellite Business 2.0” by Sampha & Little Simz, “Moka” by Eli Smart, and “Afterimage” by Justice & RIMON. I’ve also had “Throwin’ In The Towel” from the hit broadway musical The Outsiders stuck in my head all week (thanks Shirin!).

  6. The Olympics have officially begun, and rapper Flavor Flav is the USA Women’s Water Polo team’s number one fan. After seeing them call for financial support, Mr. Flav committed to backing them, both as a Girl Dad and sports fan. He even got in the pool to practice with them.

  7. Visiting the foley vault at Walt Disney Studios, where they record all the sound effects. What a cool job!

  8. Lake Street Dive covers Shania Twain’s “You’re Still The One” for Track Star Presents.

  9. Artists of the week: Kathy Lam, Toan Kotsu, and Kevin Zych.

  10. Finally found the mechanical keyboard of my dreams! Creamy sound, under $100, great reviews, and cool colorways: it’s the AULA F99. Not sponsored, I’m just happy with their product!

  11. A calming video showing you How to carve a spoon from wood.

Hope you had a great week! Thanks for reading.

Mia
