Hey! Hope you’re hanging in there. Here are some gems I found recently.
“Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You Into Heaven Anymore” by John Prine. The Most Important Thing For These Crazy Times by Ryan Holiday.
Music: “Show Me” by Big Wild feat. Hundred Waters (sampled by Skrillex and featuring Chance the Rapper, Moses Sumney and Robin Hannibal here. I knew it sounded familiar!!), “Wood” by Rostam (founding member of Vampire Weekend), “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS” by PawPaw Rod, Northeast Party House’s cover of “Heads Will Roll” by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Flume and Toro y Moi’s cover of Bag Raiders’ “Shooting Stars”, “All My Friends” by LCD Soundsystem, Clairo’s cover of “Love Songs” by Margo Guryan, “Gorilla” by Little Simz (who also has a great Tiny Desk Concert).
“If you want to understand any problem in America, you need to focus on who profits from the problem, not who suffers from that problem.” - Amos Wilson.
I’m currently reading The Way of the Champion, by lacrosse legend Paul Rabil. It’s bite-sized chapters that cover everything from self-discipline, philosophy, and unlikely success stories from the sports world. Pretty good so far!
One internet gem that’s really improved my daily life: the zima dental mouthguard cleaner. I got a random instagram ad, decided to try it out, and now it’s a non-negotiable part of my nighttime routine. You just pop in a tablet, let it dissolve, and turn on the pod and 5 minutes later my mouthguard comes out thoroughly deep-cleaned. Sponsor me zima!!
A sketchbook dedicated to pigeons. A miniature plant room.
“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.” - Octavia Butler.
And Octavia Butler’s interview with Essence magazine, from 2000.
A bittersweet comic about a crow finding a treasure: “Hidden Stars” by Sina Simbürger. A quick reminder from the artist Orfayo.
Thanks for reading.
